US Representative Guy Reschenthaler, a Pennsylvania Republican, has introduced a bill last week to rename Washington DC’s Dulles International Airport. Reschenthaler put forward the idea to change the name of the airport, initially named after former Secretary of State John Foster Dulles, into Donald J. Trump International Airport, after the 45th president of the United States.
“As millions of domestic and international travellers fly through the airport, there is no better symbol of freedom, prosperity, and strength than hearing ‘Welcome to Trump International Airport’ as they land on American soil”, Reschenthaler told Fox News.
Apart from Reschenthaler, six other pro-Trump Republicans co-sponsored the bill – representatives Michael Waltz of Florida, Andy Ogles of Tennessee, Charles “Chuck” Fleischmann of Tennessee, Paul Gosar of Arizona, Barry Moore of Alabama and Troy Nehls of Texas. In total, the short bill consists of two pages.
Donald Trump is facing 91 felony charges. If Republicans want to name something after him, I’d suggest they find a federal prison.

For the proposal to become reality, the bill would have to pass both the House, which has a minor Republican majority, and the Senate, currently controlled by the Democrats. Therefore, it isn’t likely the name of the airport will change anytime soon.
Even though the chances of Donald J. Trump International Airport becoming reality are small, naming an airport after a president wouldn’t be anything new in the United States. John F. Kennedy International Airport and Ronald Reagan National Airport are just two examples of travel hubs named after figures who served in the White House.
