Holidaymakers jetting off during the May Day bank holiday could find their travel plans in tatters.
A London Heathrow airport strike is looming.
Workers at a refueling firm will walk out for three days beginning on Saturday May 4.
It affects about 50 workers who cite ‘drastic cuts’ to employment conditions of new staff the company AFS took on this year.
Union Unite warns of ‘severe disruption for passengers’ if it goes ahead.
The airport strike would lead to ‘delayed, disrupted and grounded’ flights.
AFS is ‘attacking the most vulnerable new staff in its workplace by offering them reduced pension and sickness benefits,’ the union says.
AFS refuels the planes of 35 different airlines.
These include Delta Air Lines, Emirates and Air France.
“AFS is behaving appallingly by attacking new members of staff – those it views as the easiest to intimidate,” said Unite general secretary Sharon Graham.
Heathrow Airport management said it is working with AFS to make contingency plans and there are other plane refueling companies at Heathrow.
