Virgin Australia Updates Carry-On Rules

Virgin Australia Updates Carry-On Rules for 2026

Virgin Australia will change its carry-on baggage rules from 2 February 2026 to improve safety and boarding efficiency.

The airline aims to reduce delays, enhance comfort, and make overhead locker management smoother for guests and crew. These updates ensure faster boarding, safer cabins, and a consistent experience for all passengers across domestic and international flights.

New Rules for Economy Class Travellers

Economy Class guests, including Velocity Red and Silver members, may bring one overhead carry-on bag weighing up to 8 kilograms. They may also bring one small personal item, such as a handbag, laptop bag, or small backpack under the seat.

The main carry-on must not exceed 56cm x 36cm x 23cm in size to fit overhead lockers safely. Personal items must not exceed 45cm x 33cm x 20cm and must be stowed completely under the front seat.

Allowances for Premium Members and Families

Velocity Gold, Platinum, and Platinum Plus members will continue to receive additional carry-on allowances and greater flexibility when travelling. Adults travelling with infants can bring one extra small personal item containing essential baby items like milk, wipes, or food.

A stroller within carry-on size limits can replace one adult’s bag, but larger strollers must be checked for free. Guests can also check up to three infant items free of charge, providing more convenience for families during travel.

Focus on Comfort, Safety, and Simplicity

Virgin Australia will allow approved child comfort items like Plane Pal or JetKids BedBox for in-cabin use during flights. These updates promote safety, efficiency, and passenger comfort while maintaining consistent standards across all Virgin Australia-operated services.

The airline encourages travellers to review their carry-on limits before flying to ensure a smooth and stress-free journey.
