Virgin Australia and Air New Zealand Reunite for Enhanced Trans-Tasman Travel

Virgin Australia and Air New Zealand have officially revived their partnership, offering seamless travel experiences and expanded options for passengers crossing the Tasman.

Under the new codeshare agreement, Virgin Australia customers can now book flights operated by Air New Zealand with a Virgin Australia (VA) flight number to Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch for travel from December 9, 2024. These routes complement Virgin Australia’s existing services to Queenstown.

The partnership unlocks around 300 weekly flights between Australia and New Zealand, offering benefits for Virgin Australia guests and Velocity Frequent Flyer members, including:

  • Velocity Points and Status Credits for eligible bookings.
  • Lounge access for Velocity Gold and Platinum members.
  • Priority services such as priority check-in, boarding, and an additional checked bag for elite members.
  • Seamless travel with baggage transfers and through boarding passes for connecting flights on Virgin Australia’s Australian network.
  • Exclusive discounts and benefits for Virgin Australia Business Flyer members and corporate customers.

Alistair Hartley, Virgin Australia’s Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer, emphasised the significance of the partnership.
“The bond between Australia and New Zealand is more than geographical. This agreement provides Virgin Australia customers with unparalleled access, loyalty rewards, and flexibility, making travel between the two countries effortless,” he said.

Air New Zealand’s General Manager for Australia, Kathryn O’Brien, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the ease and opportunities the partnership brings.
“Whether for family visits, business, or exploring New Zealand’s stunning landscapes, this partnership makes travel smoother and more accessible. We look forward to welcoming Virgin Australia guests with our signature Kiwi hospitality,” she said.
