United Makes History with Starlink Wi-Fi Across Its Fleet
A New Era of Connectivity in the Skies
United made history by introducing Starlink Wi-Fi across its mainline aircraft, delivering high-speed internet for passengers worldwide. The first flights connected travellers with fast, low-latency Wi-Fi on both personal devices and inflight entertainment screens.
Passengers streamed, worked, shopped, and gamed effortlessly, experiencing the same reliable internet speeds they enjoy at home.
Expanding Starlink Across the United Fleet
United installed Starlink on up to 15 mainline 737-800 aircraft each month, rapidly expanding its high-speed network. Each 737-800 featured two Starlink antennas, totalling nearly 2,940 antennas across the entire United fleet.
More than half of United’s regional aircraft already offered Starlink, proving its strong customer demand and consistent connectivity. MileagePlus members accessed Starlink Wi-Fi for free and received notifications before boarding Starlink-equipped flights.
Transforming the Passenger Experience
United’s Chief Customer Officer, David Kinzelman, said “Starlink changed how travellers stay connected during flights. “Whether watching live sports or working in real time, customers never missed a beat onboard,” Kinzelman said.
Starlink allowed passengers to stream videos, join meetings, play games, and shop online on multiple devices at once. Over 90% of travellers praised Starlink’s speed and reliability during regional flight trials earlier in the rollout.
United combined this innovation with plans to install 300,000 seatback screens, more than any other U.S. airline. By investing in technology and comfort, United redefined inflight connectivity and created a new benchmark for modern air travel.
