United Airlines Returns to Thailand After Eleven Years

Daily Los Angeles–Bangkok flights mark a milestone in global tourism revival.

Reconnecting the U.S. and Thailand – United Airlines has made a major comeback to Thailand after an eleven-year absence. The airline has launched daily flights from Los Angeles to Bangkok, meeting strong demand for international travel.

This route reconnects North America and Southeast Asia, strengthening tourism and trade between the two nations. The inaugural flight departed Los Angeles on 24 October and landed at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport on 26 October.
It marks the first time since 2014 that a U.S. carrier has flown to Thailand.

Strengthening Global Connectivity

The Tourism Authority of Thailand celebrated United’s return with a special welcome ceremony at Suvarnabhumi Airport. The aircraft received a traditional water salute, symbolising a new chapter in Thailand – U.S. aviation ties.

Officials from both nations attended, including U.S. Ambassador Robert F. Godec and TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool. Ms. Thapanee said “The route strengthens bilateral relations and supports Thailand’s tourism growth goals.” She emphasised that “More Americans are seeking meaningful and high-value experiences in Thailand.”

Modern Aircraft and Seamless Travel

United’s daily service uses the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, known for efficiency and comfort on long-haul routes. The aircraft offers 257 seats across Polaris Business, Premium Plus, and Economy cabins.

  • The outbound flight, UA 820, departs Los Angeles at 23:15 and arrives in Bangkok at 11:25 via Hong Kong.
  • The return flight, UA 821, departs Bangkok daily at 16:55 and arrives in Los Angeles at 20:25 the same day.

This schedule provides smooth connections for travellers on United’s extensive West Coast network.

Boosting Thailand’s Tourism and Economy

The U.S. remains one of Thailand’s most promising long-haul markets for tourism growth. Between January and late October 2025, Thailand welcomed more than 808,000 American visitors.

This represents a five percent increase compared with the same period last year, showing continued travel momentum. Forecasts suggest the number of American visitors could surpass 1.09 million by the end of 2025.

Tourism revenue from this market is expected to reach an estimated sixty-two billion Baht.

A Gateway to Asia

United’s new route enhances Bangkok’s position as a major aviation hub in Asia. The service complements Air Canada’s Vancouver – Bangkok flights, expanding North American access to Thailand. The brief stop in Hong Kong allows convenient onward connections for travelers from San Francisco.

With hubs in Los Angeles and San Francisco, United connects to over seventy-five destinations across the Americas. This network gives passengers seamless access from major U.S. cities to Thailand’s beaches, cities, and cultural landmarks.

A Symbol of Partnership and Progress

Industry experts view United’s return as a strong sign of confidence in Thailand’s tourism potential. The route supports economic cooperation, cultural exchange, and sustainable tourism development between both countries. It also aligns with Bangkok’s rising global visibility through major film and television productions.

The city’s blend of tradition, energy, and modern appeal continues to attract travelers worldwide. United’s comeback underscores Thailand’s growing influence as a leading destination defined by warmth and world-class hospitality.
