United Airlines Launches Direct Greenland Flights

United Airlines Launches First Direct U.S.–Greenland Flights in Nearly 20 Years

United Airlines now connects the U.S. directly to Greenland with a new seasonal service from Newark to Nuuk.

First Nonstop Route Since 2007

A United Boeing 737 MAX 8 now operates direct flights between Newark and Nuuk, Greenland. This marks the first nonstop commercial service between the U.S. and Greenland in nearly two decades. Previously, passengers had to connect through Europe or Iceland to reach Greenland.

Twice-Weekly Flights Now Active

United’s new service runs twice weekly from June through September. The route is part of the airline’s largest-ever international expansion. Flights operate using a three-class Boeing 737 MAX 8, offering a comfortable onboard experience.

A New Era for Nuuk

Nuuk, the world’s northernmost capital, gains its first direct connection to the U.S. Greenland’s government welcomes the route as a way to boost tourism and economic development. The flights use Nuuk’s modernised international airport, now ready for more global traffic.

Passengers Praise Convenience

Travellers no longer need to stop in Europe to reach Greenland. Passengers are excited by the shorter journey and seamless access to Arctic adventures. The route sold out quickly, showing strong demand for direct travel to Greenland.

Greenland continues to see a rise in international arrivals and expects this trend to grow.
