United Airlines Alters Summer 2024 Route Network

United Airlines, now proudly the largest carrier across the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, is already shifting its summer 2024 schedules. Based on this year’s demand, the airline has decided to resume a few routes early and push the resumption of another.

Though United is gearing up for its largest transpacific expansion, which begins this winter, it is already looking forward to summer 2024. According to Cirium, United will resume two European routes earlier than originally planned next summer. Service from Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) to Athens International Airport (ATH) was set to resume on May 3 but will now resume on March 30. The flight will operate as UA124 on the Boeing 787-10, the largest variant of the Dreamliner family. Departures are scheduled for 17:40 and an arrival time of 10:10 local time on the following day.

United will also resume its Washington – Madrid route next April, using the 767-400 to fly to Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport. The route was due to resume on May 4 but will instead return on April 14. Another early resumption is from Newark Liberty International Airport to Dublin International Airport. United serves Dublin year-round from Newark, once daily in winter and twice-daily in summer. According to Cirium, United was due to resume its second daily flight on April 27 but the airline has now changed its plans. Data shows that from March 30, flights will be doubled.

Two aircraft types will be deployed to Dublin, the Boeing 767-400 and 757-200, with a capacity for 231 and 176 passengers, respectively. The first flight, on the 767, will operate as UA23. UA23 will leave Newark at 20:20 and land in Dublin on the following day at 07:00 local time. The later flight, on the 757, will operate as UA317 and leave Newark at 21:50 and touchdown in Dublin the next day at 09:45.

From May 23, United will double its operations from Newark to Naples International Airport (NAP), likely as a result of additional services from other carriers, like Delta Air Lines from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport. This has not been confirmed by the airline. Both flights will be operated by the 767-300s which can carry up to 167 passengers. The first flight will depart at 17:10 and arrive in Naples at 07:55 on the following day while the second flight will have a late departure at 22:15 with an early arrival of 13:00 the next day.

Service from Newark to Paris Charles de Gaulle International Airport will also double at the end of May. Starting on May 24, United will send a 777-200 and a 767-300 to Paris every day.

Pushing one route back

Last October, United announced it would return to Stockholm Arlanda Airport for the first time in four years, and it operated the flight on a Boeing 757 this summer. According to this week’s schedule changes, next summer, United will resume the route later than originally planned. As of last week, service from Newark to Stockholm was set to resume on May 25 but will now resume on June 5.
