UltraPass and Philippine DOTr Launch Digital Identity Verification Pilot at Airports

UltraPass, a US-based digital identity firm, has partnered with the Philippine Department of Transportation (DOTr) to introduce a digital identity verification pilot program at key airports in the Philippines. This initiative aims to enhance passenger security and expedite processing times through advanced biometric verification, contributing to a smoother and more secure airport experience for Filipino travelers.

The pilot will launch at select airports, integrating UltraPass technology to simplify identity checks while prioritizing data privacy and sovereignty. According to DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista, the project is part of the Philippines’ efforts to meet international aviation standards, joining major global airports in adopting biometric technology to improve travel security and efficiency.

This partnership stems from the first Presidential Trade & Investment Mission to the Philippines, spearheaded by Secretary Gina Raimondo earlier this year. It aligns with broader US-Philippine economic initiatives, including the ASEAN Digital Economic Framework and the US Indo-Pacific Economic Framework, which seek to bolster regional connectivity and cooperation.

US Under Secretary Maria Lago, along with top officials, attended the program’s signing ceremony, signifying US support for ASEAN’s digital transformation. UltraPass CEO Eric Starr noted that this collaboration demonstrates how US technology can help ASEAN countries advance digital transformation while maintaining digital sovereignty.

By enhancing airport security and operational efficiency, this digital identity solution is expected to set a new standard for aviation security and passenger experience in the region.
