Two more airlines take delivery of Chinese homegrown aircraft

Two more major Chinese airlines have become owners of China’s first homegrown commercial jet.

Air China and China Southern Airlines follow launch customer China Eastern Airlines in taking delivery of a COMAC C919 passenger jet, the first to be mass produced and designed in China.

Both Air China and China Southern have received their first COMAC C919 aircraft.

The aircraft first entered service in May 2023.

China Eastern now flies seven of the jets on domestic routes.

Air China and China Southern are expected to each receive another two C919 aircraft before the end of this year.

COMAC says it has a total order pipeline of 1,000 jets, with the three main state-owned airlines having made orders for 100 of them.

The C919 can seat from 150-192 passengers depending on configuration.
