Taiwan said it will permit Chinese tourists and business travelers again.
It is the latest step to normalisation of travel after the long Covid shutdown.
Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council will open short-term business visa applications from China starting on August 28.
It also said it is preparing to permit Chinese tour groups but hasn’t given a start date.
When tour groups are permitted, there will be a cap of a maximum 2,000 per day.
This is ‘very exciting news’ says Taiwan Tourism Association president Chen Tsung-jen.
“It’s been a long road, but we are finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.”
In 2019 Taiwan tourism benefitted from over 4.5 million foreign tourists, with approximately half from mainland China.
