Southwest Airlines to Launch Starlink High-Speed Inflight WiFi in Summer 2026
Southwest Airlines will upgrade its fleet with SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet starting summer 2026. The carrier plans to equip more than 300 aircraft by the end of 2026.
The airline will offer high-speed, low-latency WiFi powered by Starlink’s low-Earth orbit satellites. Passengers can expect speeds of up to 250 Mbps onboard. Southwest will continue offering free WiFi to Rapid Rewards members.
Starlink Delivers Faster, Low-Latency Connectivity
Starlink uses a constellation of approximately 9,000 low-Earth orbit satellites. This network delivers significantly faster speeds than traditional inflight WiFi systems.
Passengers will stream movies, watch live sports, and join video calls from gate to gate. Travellers can also download files, browse the web, and play online games seamlessly.
Southwest said the service will mirror an at-home internet experience in the air. The first Starlink-equipped aircraft will enter service in summer 2026 and they will integrate the technology rapidly across its fleet.
Southwest Joins Growing List of Starlink Airline Partners
Southwest becomes the latest airline to adopt Starlink inflight connectivity. United Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Qatar Airways, and Air France have also partnered with Starlink.
The rollout supports Southwest’s broader fleet modernization strategy. The airline aims to enhance cabin connectivity and improve the passenger experience.
Southwest currently provides free WiFi to Rapid Rewards members through T-Mobile. Starlink will significantly increase speed and performance across devices.
The upgrade positions Southwest among carriers leading the next phase of inflight internet innovation.
