First Great Western – Plymouth to London

Have you ever thought about traveling to London by train from Plymouth? With a journey time of 3 hours and 20 minutes it can be a relaxing way to travel especially in the new revamped First Class.

The first class seats have been reupholstered in a smart grey leather and new tables introduced with two power sockets and two USB charging points. There is of course free Wi Fi on board and darkened glass partitions have been added between banks of the seat, in an effort to reduce noise and provide privacy.

Pulman fine dining has been introduced by Chef Mitch Tonks

The menu has been created using local produce including seafood of the South West. The wines have been chosen from the wine list at his award winning Seahorse restaurant in Dartmouth.
Some of the dishes on the menu are as follows –

  • Pullman Reserve Smoked Salmon with capers, cornichons and Blackmore Vale Dairy cream cheese and rye bread
  • Devon Scallops grilled in the half shell, with fennel and lemon butter
  • Slow Braised Somerset Pork Belly with white cabbage and wholegrain mustard
  • Dover Sole with warm sauce tartare

If you do not wish to take advantage of the fine dining, as a first class passenger you will be offered complimentary tea / coffee, cold drinks and snacks including crisps, pretzels, nuts, biscuits and cakes.

When you arrive at Paddington you can take advantage of the first class lounge which is located on platform one.

The lounge has two areas, one which is more business-like with comfy chairs, SKY TV, newspapers and magazines and off course WI FI. A relaxing peaceful place to catch up on work.

The other area of the lounge has a traditional old station hotel feel with button back sofas and railway prints.

There is a selection of teas to help yourself too and snacks of pastries, biscuits, dried fruit and nuts.

First Class tickets on First Great Western start at 44.00 GBP one way.
