Qatar Airways Speeds Up Starlink Installation on Boeing 777 Fleet

Over 50% of B777s Now Equipped

Qatar Airways has reached a major milestone in its Starlink rollout, installing the high-speed satellite internet system on 30 Boeing 777 aircraft. This achievement means more than 50% of its B777 fleet now offers next-generation connectivity. The airline first introduced Starlink, a service by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, in October 2024, with plans to gradually expand it across the fleet. However, the rollout has progressed faster than expected, exceeding initial targets and improving the in-flight experience for passengers.

Faster Installation and Early Completion

Qatar Airways has significantly reduced the time required to install Starlink on each aircraft. Initially, the process took up to three days per plane, but engineers have now streamlined the installation to just 9.5 hours. This efficiency has allowed the airline to accelerate its retrofit timeline, cutting nearly three-quarters of the original installation period.

Originally, Qatar Airways planned to complete Starlink installations on its Boeing 777 fleet within two years. However, due to the rapid progress, the airline is now set to complete the full rollout by the second quarter of 2025—well ahead of schedule.

A Game-Changer for Passengers

The airline sees Starlink as a breakthrough for in-flight connectivity. With high-speed, low-latency internet, passengers can enjoy seamless browsing, streaming, and communication, making long-haul flights more productive and enjoyable.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer expressed enthusiasm about the progress. “We have already installed it on 30 aircraft—far exceeding our initial target,” he said. “Starlink Wi-Fi is a game-changer for our passengers, who will soon enjoy uninterrupted connectivity on even more routes.”

With the installation process ahead of schedule, Qatar Airways is setting new standards for in-flight internet. The airline continues to innovate, ensuring that passengers on its Boeing 777 fleet experience the best connectivity available in the skies.
