Qantas will restart flights between Perth and Johannesburg, and Perth and Auckland, from 7 December 2025. The airline submitted schedules to OAG, confirming three weekly services on each route.
Perth–Johannesburg Returns Three Times Weekly
Qantas will operate the Perth–Johannesburg route on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
- QF65 departs Perth at 13:30, lands in Johannesburg at 18:45.
- QF66 leaves Johannesburg at 21:35, arrives in Perth at 13:30 the next day.
An Airbus A330 will serve the route. Qantas last flew this route in March 2023. It suspended the service due to terminal issues at Perth Airport. A new agreement with the airport resolved these problems.
South African Airways also flies this route five times weekly using Airbus A340 aircraft.
Perth–Auckland Flights Restart After Seven Years
Qantas will fly the Perth–Auckland route on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.
- QF111 departs Perth at 19:00, lands in Auckland at 04:45 the next day.
- QF112 leaves Auckland at 08:30, arrives in Perth at 11:30.
Qantas last operated this route in January 2018. These flights will compete with Air New Zealand services on the same route.
Strong Demand Across the Southern Hemisphere
These routes will strengthen travel links between South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. Large South African communities live in Perth and across New Zealand. This drives strong VFR (Visiting Friends and Relatives) traffic between these regions. The new routes offer easier East–West travel. Passengers can now connect between Johannesburg and Auckland via Perth.
Flights Not Yet Bookable
Qantas has not officially confirmed the restart. However, Aeroroutes reported the updates. Bookings are expected to open soon.
Existing South Africa Services
Qantas also operates six weekly flights between Sydney and Johannesburg using Airbus A380 aircraft. These flights serve East Coast travellers and those connecting from Auckland via Sydney.
Qantas is rebuilding its Southern Hemisphere network. The return of these routes adds convenience, capacity, and competitive options. Travellers can expect smoother travel between South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand by December 2025.
