Phnom Penh’s New Techo International Airport Opens with a Surprise Identity
A New Code That May Confuse Travelers
Phnom Penh Techo International Airport opened September 9, 2025, carrying the new IATA code KTI instead of PNH. The change removes Phnom Penh’s name from timetables, an unusual move for a capital gateway compared with global airport naming conventions.
Airlines will cross-reference the old and new codes, but passengers may still face confusion when booking or reviewing tickets.
Location, Access, and Ground Transport Options
Situated 30 kilometers south of Phnom Penh, the airport connects via Hun Sen Boulevard highway, taking 40 to 70 minutes. Routes will shift: travel to Sihanoukville adds 30 minutes, while the drive to Chau Doc, Vietnam, becomes considerably shorter.
Ground transport begins with taxis and app-based services costing $10 to $20, with buses expected soon after the launch.
Airlines, Passenger Experience, and Green Design
From October, Etihad launches Abu Dhabi flights, and Turkish Airlines adds service with a Bangkok stop by December 10.
Phase One facilities include 32 gates, gardens, lounges, 40 shops, and 25 restaurants, handling 13 million passengers annually.
KTI highlights sustainability, running nearly entirely on solar energy while offering modern self-check-in counters and a spacious, naturally lit terminal.
