Perth Airport Launches Major Terminal 2 Expansion

Perth Airport Launches Major Terminal 2 Expansion

Upgrades aim to double passenger capacity and enhance travel experience.

Perth Airport has begun a major expansion and upgrade of Terminal 2 as part of its multi-billion-pound investment programme. The project includes new self-service check-in facilities, a larger passenger screening area, and an extended departure lounge.

Construction will also expand the baggage make-up hall to improve handling capacity and efficiency. Design work to upgrade the southern passenger walkway is now underway to enhance passenger flow.

Boosting Regional Connectivity

Perth Airport CEO Jason Waters said “The upgrades are a timely response to growing passenger numbers.” Regional passenger traffic increased 3.7% in the past year, rising from six million to 6.24 million travellers. “These works are critical to support our growing regional passenger base,” Waters explained.

The upgrades will almost double the passenger capacity within Terminal 2 once completed. Waters added that the growth highlights Perth’s importance as a major aviation hub for Western Australia.

Enhancing Passenger Experience

The expansion aims to improve both customer experience and airline efficiency across the terminal. New facilities will create smoother check-in, screening, and boarding processes for travellers.

Passengers may experience some inconvenience as significant construction continues within the terminal. Waters said the airport and contractor Hoskins are coordinating closely to minimise disruption during works. The project forms part of Perth Airport’s wider capital programme to modernize its infrastructure and services.

Building for the Future

In addition to the Terminal 2 upgrade, Perth Airport is also improving car parks, roads, and retail areas. The enhancements include expanded food and beverage outlets to better serve growing passenger demand.

All work is being completed within a live operating environment, maintaining service continuity throughout construction. Once complete, the redevelopment will deliver greater efficiency and comfort for travellers across Western Australia.

The expansion reinforces Perth Airport’s commitment to supporting economic growth and regional tourism.
