Italy to Host the 38th America’s Cup in Naples in 2027
For the first time in history, Italy will host the Louis Vuitton 38th America’s Cup. Notably, the iconic event will unfold in Naples—renowned for its maritime tradition and vibrant culture—during the spring and summer of 2027.
A Historic First for Italy
Italy will host the America’s Cup and the Louis Vuitton Cup for the first time. Naples, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, will transform into the global stage for the world’s oldest international sporting trophy.
The races will take place in the Gulf of Naples, beneath the shadow of Mount Vesuvius, between Castel dell’Ovo and Posillipo. Team bases will be located in Bagnoli, a redeveloping area at the heart of Naples’ urban regeneration.
Government Celebrates National Achievement
Andrea Abodi, Italy’s Minister for Sport and Youth, described the event as a major victory for the whole country. He praised the opportunity to promote tourism, sport, education, and marine economy across the region. “The America’s Cup will be an engine for development and a source of pride for all Italians,” said Abodi.
Minister of Economy Giancarlo Giorgetti highlighted the event’s role in accelerating Bagnoli’s redevelopment, an area needing investment and transformation.
Gaetano Manfredi, Mayor of Naples, called this the biggest sporting event ever hosted by the city. He expects a massive economic boost, similar to past host cities like Barcelona and Valencia. “Naples will be ready to meet global expectations and deliver a spectacular regatta,” he said. The mayor also confirmed ongoing environmental work in Bagnoli, with the America’s Cup acting as a catalyst for change.
Team New Zealand Welcomes Naples as Host
Grant Dalton, CEO of Team New Zealand, expressed excitement over the venue announcement. “Italy has passion and pride—Naples feels like the perfect host for this event,” he said. Dalton acknowledged that Team New Zealand will face fierce competition, especially with Italian team Luna Rossa racing at home. He further praised Naples’ previous experience, having hosted America’s Cup World Series events in 2012 and 2013.
France Confirms Their Return
France’s Orient Express Racing Team, operated by K-Challenge, will compete again in 2027. They confirmed their entry following the announcement of Naples as the next America’s Cup host. “This location gives us proximity, excellent sailing conditions, and fan accessibility,” said team co-CEO Stephan Kandler. However France has never won the America’s Cup but remains committed to pursuing victory in this upcoming edition.
New Zealand Yacht Squadron: “A Global Showcase”
David Blakey, Commodore of the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, is thrilled with the location. “Naples will offer a stunning setting and grow the sport’s global reach,” he said. The event will also include youth and women’s regattas, expanding participation and visibility in sailing.
What’s Next?
The Louis Vuitton 38th America’s Cup in Naples will feature the third generation of AC75 foiling monohulls. Meanwhile, organisers will soon release further details, including event dates, challenger line-up, and the regatta schedule.
Italy is preparing for a historic celebration of sport, innovation, and national pride.
