French Airports to Cancel 40% of Paris-Orly Flights on Friday Ahead of Unions’ Strike

French authorities have asked airlines to reduce flights at Paris-Orly airport scheduled for Friday when the unions’ strike calling for pay increases is expected to happen.

The authorities have asked for 40 per cent of the flights to be cancelled at Paris-Orly airport, while the regional Marseille-Provence and Beauvais airports are required to reduce flights by 20 and 15 per cent, respectively, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

The strike is set to come three days before a scheduled government union meeting on low wages. The authorities have also warned that short-haul flights can be more affected by cancellations during this time as airlines try to protect the long-haul ones. Either way, staying up to date with the status of one’s flight is highly recommended during this period.

These strike actions will not be limited only to air travelling as the Paris Metro workers might also continue their strike until the end of October. More specifically, the station workers will be protesting for additional pay that is being offered to train drivers during the World Cup event, which will be running until October 28.

Members of the trade union FO-RATP, which represents public transport workers in Paris, have threatened to walk out over the issue while negotiations are still in progress.

Travellers are highly advised to purchase travel insurance before travelling to France so they can be protected from unexpected expenses that can occur due to flight cancellations, missing luggage or other inconveniences.

Strikes will be threatening flights to Alicante-Elche airport, which indicates that flights to this Spanish airport can be cancelled in the upcoming months.

Security staff at the airport will be protesting for better working conditions and pay starting from October until January, with the strike continuing for the majority of the days for the three upcoming months.

Similarly, November 1 to 5, 10-12, 14, 17-19, 21, 24-26 and November 28.

In December, the strike will start from 1 to the 10th, then the 12th, as well as from the 15th to the 17th and 19th. The last week of December, from December 22 to 31, will also be affected by the action, as it will continue on the first two weeks of January, from January 1 to 14. The next months are especially important for travelling as people like travelling during Bank holidays as well as the end of the year holidays.
