Finnair has announced significant disruptions to its flight schedule in December, with approximately 300 flights canceled due to a planned pilot strike.
The Finnish Air Line Pilots’ Association confirmed strike action for December 9 and 13, prompting cancellations not only on these days but also on December 10, 11, and 14. Some flights prior to December 9 may also be affected.
The airline estimates the cancellations will disrupt travel plans for around 33,000 passengers. The affected flights span its European network, UK routes, and long-haul services to Asia, including direct connections to Tokyo, Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Bangkok.
“This unfortunately disrupts the travel plans of thousands of our customers during the pre-Christmas season,” said Jaakko Schildt, Finnair’s Chief Operating Officer. “We are doing everything we can to serve our customers well even in this difficult situation.”
Finnair has confirmed the cancellation of 140 flights on December 9 and about 150 flights on December 13. Impacted customers will be notified of the cancellations and provided with rerouting options wherever possible.
“Finding suitable new flights for thousands of customers takes time, so we ask our customers to be patient,” Schildt added.
Finnair apologised for the inconvenience and assured passengers that efforts are underway to minimize disruption during the busy holiday travel period.
