Ten airports across Europe have been chosen as the most suitable airports to travel from, according to data collected by StressFreeCarRental.
The criteria for choosing the most suitable airport was based on the total number of travellers in a year, the distance from the centre of the city, the total number of restaurants within the area, car parking prices for a week and a quality rating score.
According to the list, the lower the number of passengers, the less stressful an airport is, and similarly, the closer to the city, the cheaper the taxis, the less stress travellers encounter, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
Two out of ten selected airports in this list are located in Italy, and the rest are in other countries in Europe.
Denmark’s Billund Airport, Luxembourg’s Luxembourg Airport and Lithuania’s Vilnius International Airport are the top three least stressful airports topping out of ten that made it into the list.
Billund and Vilnius counted a similar number of passengers in 2022, both surpassing more than three million travellers, 3.7 and 3.9 million, respectively. However, the highest number of passengers out of these three countries was recorded in Luxembourg with more than four million.
The price for a one-week car park was most expensive in Luxembourg as well, costing as much as €91.21, whereas Billund remained much cheaper (€62.41), followed by Vilnius (€45.5).
Denmark’s airport was located the nearest to the city centre (5.9km), followed by Lithuania (6.4) and then by Luxembourg, with a distance of 7.6km from the city centre.
The number of restaurants in Billund was five, in Luxembourg nine, and in Vilnius, it was ten. The highest rating out of 100 per cent went to the Luxembourg Airport with an 83 per cent rating and 34 points. Meanwhile, the highest points were collected by the Billund Airport (39) with a lower rating (80 per cent). Similar to Billund, the Vilnius International Airport received an 80 per cent rating as well and 33 total points.
The seven remaining countries, part of the list for the most stress-free airports to travel from to, and through, as well as their total number of passengers for 2022, are:
- Spain (Menorca Airport) – 3,900,935
- Germany (Hannover Airport) – 3,955,425
- UK (Newcastle Airport) – 4,127,000
- Greece (Corfu International Airport)- 3,749,106
- Norway (Trondheim Airport) – 3,803,933
- Italy (Turin Airport) – 4,193,881
- Italy (Cagliari Elmas Airport) – 4,396,594
According to a previous survey done by Priority Pass that explored some of the things that stress travellers the most, the biggest issue appeared to be the fear of being stuck on their way to the airport. Furthermore, loss of luggage, missing boarding and passport issues were some of the other matters which passengers felt most stressed about.
Taking into account which airports are most stressful is an important factor when choosing an airport to travel to this summer due to the increase in the number of travellers throughout the continent this summer.
Several major European airports reported record numbers of travellers in June, and the numbers are expected to grow even more for the rest of summer. Data show that there was a significant increase in the number of passengers, especially in Germany, Switzerland and Austria, whereas the most popular destinations remained Spain, Italy, Germany, Greece and Turkey.
