Emirates funding US$200 million for sustainable aviation initiatives

Emirates is committing US$200 million to fund research and development in sustainable commercial aviation.

It says it is the biggest single commitment by any airline on sustainability.

Funds to be disbursed over a three-year period.

Emirates will identify partnerships with leading organisations working on advanced fuel and energy technologies.

Sir Tim Clark, President Emirates, said: “We are ring-fencing US$200 million to invest in advanced fuel and energy solutions,”

“This is where airlines face the biggest impediment reducing our environmental impact.”

An airline Environmental Sustainability Executive Steering Group will oversee funding, with support from technical experts.

In January, Emirates successfully completed the first 100% SAF-powered demonstration flight.

It continues to seek opportunities in its network to use SAF where feasible.

Emirates also invests in renewable energy initiatives including the installation of solar panels to power some of its operational buildings in Dubai.
