Thousands of holidaymakers’ plans are up in the air after easyjet pre-emptively cancelled 1,700 flights.
It confirmed it has cancelled 1,700 flights with an eye on possible strikes across Europe.
The airline scrapped flights for July, August and September, with most to and from London Gatwick Airport.
The carrier cited air traffic control issues as well as potential strikes.
Most of the thousands of affected customers have already been re-booked onto other flights, it says.
Easyjet noted the ‘challenging conditions this summer’ with rail strikes at home, airspace constraints and the planned strikes by air traffic controllers in Europe.
“We have made some pre-emptive adjustments consolidating a small number of flights at Gatwick,” the airline said.
“All customers are provided with the option to rebook or receive a refund.”
Around 180,000 customers in total are affected.
