Dubai airport reroutes incoming flights following unprecedented rainfall in the city-state, equivalent to a year’s worth of precipitation in a single day.

On Tuesday, a significant amount of rainfall, exceeding 120mm (4.7 inches), inundated the city-state, with additional precipitation anticipated in the upcoming hours.

Earlier today, operations at Dubai International Airport were temporarily halted for 25 minutes due to adverse weather conditions, resulting in the cancellation of numerous inbound and outbound flights. Additionally, several arrival flights were redirected to alternative airports. This interruption in operations was caused by heavy rainfall, which is unusual for the desert nation and has led to widespread flooding of homes and roads. The airport’s tarmac was submerged under water, resembling more of a lake than a runway.

Despite these challenges, the airport has resumed departure flights, while inbound flights will be redirected until weather conditions improve.
