Birmingham Airport strike officially cancelled

Airport strike action has been avoided as over 150 Birmingham airport security officers and terminal technicians accepted an improved pay deal.

The one year pay deal will give workers a pay increase of 13.25%.

The deal also provides for increased union organising access with more Unite workplace reps and a wider collective bargaining agreement.

The workers in the pay dispute are directly employed by Birmingham Airport Limited.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “Once again, Unite’s absolute concentration on delivering improvements to jobs, pay and conditions has paid off.”

The security officers and terminal engineers were set for an airport strike earlier this month but suspended it to conduct a ballot on the improved pay deal.

It comes a day after more Gatwick Airport workers accepted a new pay deal, heading off a planned strike that would have started today.
