American Airlines has officially launched its first-ever nonstop service from Miami to South Caicos, part of the Turks and Caicos Islands. The twice-weekly flights, which began on March 15, mark the only international route serving South Caicos Airport.
Initially planned for February, the inaugural flight faced delays due to airport certification issues. With the service now in place, American Airlines strengthens its leading position in the U.S.-Caribbean market.
Quick and Convenient Travel to a Hidden Caribbean Gem
Flights between Miami and South Caicos take just two hours, making travel to this unspoiled island paradise faster and easier than ever before. South Caicos, known for its pristine beaches, rich marine life, and laid-back atmosphere, is the fourth most populous island in Turks and Caicos but ranks seventh in size. With a population of around 1,000 people, the island relies heavily on tourism, and this new route is expected to boost local businesses and visitor numbers.
American Airlines operates more flights to the Caribbean than any other carrier. The airline handles one in ten of all Caribbean flights and 23% of U.S.-Caribbean routes. The new Miami-South Caicos service expands the airline’s already extensive Caribbean network, which now includes 43 airports across the region.
American Airlines serves more than 80 nonstop destinations from Miami, covering Mexico, the Caribbean, and Latin America. This new route further strengthens Miami International Airport’s status as a major gateway to the Caribbean.
