New Nonstop Route: Air New Zealand Connects Christchurch and Adelaide
Direct trans-Tasman flights bring South Australia closer to New Zealand’s South Island
A Direct Link Between Two Southern Cities
Air New Zealand has announced a new direct service between Christchurch and Adelaide, launching on 27 October 2025.
The route will operate twice weekly, on Mondays and Fridays, through to 27 March 2026, offering approximately 15,000 seats.
Flights will use Airbus A320 or A321neo aircraft, delivering comfort and convenience on the six-hour journey across the Tasman.
Strong Demand Fuels Route Expansion
This new route responds to increasing demand for direct travel between Australia and New Zealand’s South Island.
Air New Zealand Chief Executive Greg Foran says the route is a strategic move to strengthen regional tourism and connectivity. “We know there’s strong demand for direct services between the South Island and Australia,” he said in a recent statement. The service is designed to benefit both inbound Australian tourists and outbound Kiwi travellers exploring South Australia.
More Choice, Fewer Stopovers
Travellers can now skip stopovers in capital cities, saving time and enjoying smoother journeys between Christchurch and Adelaide. This new route provides a convenient option for South Islanders heading to Australia, or Australians discovering the beauty of Aotearoa.
It also supports travellers connecting from Christchurch to Queenstown, Fiordland, and Marlborough’s wine regions.
A Growing Trans-Tasman Network
Air New Zealand already operates between four and six flights per week between Auckland and Adelaide. From Auckland, Aussie travellers can connect to long-haul destinations like New York, Los Angeles, and Vancouver with ease. This expansion reflects the airline’s ongoing growth across short-haul routes, reinforcing its commitment to customer demand and regional travel.
This summer, travellers can enjoy direct flights, convenient schedules, and seamless travel experiences between two vibrant southern cities.
