Aeroporti di Roma Launches AI-Powered Virtual Assistant at Fiumicino Airport
The innovative service enhances passenger experiences with real-time updates, multilingual support, and personalized guidance.
Revolutionising Travel Through AI – Aeroporti di Roma has launched an AI-powered Virtual Assistant to improve the travel experience at Rome Fiumicino Airport. The new assistant provides real-time flight updates, parking availability, and personalised recommendations through WhatsApp and the official ADR website.
Passengers can access information on baggage tracking, airport services, transportation, and shopping in one convenient digital platform. Available in Italian, English, Chinese, and Russian, the assistant aims to make travel smoother for millions of international passengers annually.
Collaboration Driving Digital Innovation
ADR developed the service in partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Storm Reply, using advanced generative AI technologies. Powered by Amazon Bedrock, the system ensures secure, multilingual, and context-aware responses to passengers’ complex queries in real time.
ADR’s Senior Vice President of Technology, Emanuele Calà, says “The innovation blends Italian hospitality with cutting-edge AI efficiency.” He notes the assistant supports nearly 50 million travellers annually, ensuring their airport experience feels effortless from start to finish.
Enhancing the Passenger Journey
The assistant uses a multi-agent architecture to deliver accurate, privacy-compliant, AI-driven responses across multiple travel contexts and languages. Passengers can receive guidance on security checks, lounge bookings, flight connections, and terminal navigation instantly through the chatbot.
ADR plans to expand the service further, adding more interactive features to enhance efficiency and traveller comfort in coming months. This innovation reinforces Fiumicino Airport’s leadership in digital transformation, continuing its recognition as Europe’s Best Airport for seven consecutive years.
