United Airlines Expands Partnership for Sustainable Aviation Fuel

United Airlines Expands Neste Partnership to Power More U.S. Flights with Sustainable Aviation Fuel

The airline becomes the first to use sustainable aviation fuel at Houston, Newark, and Washington D.C. airports.

United Airlines has strengthened its partnership with Neste to expand sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) use across the United States. Neste will supply Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel™ to Houston, Newark, and Washington Dulles airports through existing fuel infrastructure.

United becomes the first commercial airline to use SAF for regular flights from these three major airport hubs. Neste began deliveries to Houston in July 2025, and Newark and Dulles followed in September of the same year.

A Milestone in United’s Sustainability Journey

United Chief Sustainability Officer Lauren Riley said “Introducing SAF at these airports marks another step in the airline’s sustainability progress. She noted that “United used more than 4,300 metric tons of SAF last year, leading all U.S. carriers.”Riley emphasised that “Federal and state incentives remain essential to support the continued growth of the sustainable fuel market.”

United plans to keep working with partners and policymakers to accelerate SAF adoption across the aviation industry.

Neste Supports Aviation’s Net-Zero Goals

Neste’s Senior Vice President, Carl Nyberg, said “Expanding SAF to new airports demonstrates real progress toward aviation’s decarbonisation goals.” He called for more states to introduce supportive policy frameworks that encourage greater SAF production and distribution.

Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel™ is made from renewable waste materials like used cooking oil and animal fat waste. When used neat, it can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% compared to conventional jet fuel.

Sustainable Fuel Powering the Future of Flight

Neste already supplies SAF to United at Chicago O’Hare and San Francisco International airports under similar sustainability initiatives. These efforts show how collaboration and local incentives can accelerate cleaner, lower-carbon air travel across major global hubs.

United Airlines continues leading aviation’s shift toward a sustainable future through innovation, partnership, and responsible fuel sourcing.
