Taiwan Goes Fully Digital: New Arrival Card System Launches October 1
A Seamless Shift to Smarter Border Management
Taiwan is replacing its paper-based arrival card with the Taiwan Arrival Card (TWAC), effective October 1, 2025. All international travelers without Taiwanese residency must complete the TWAC online within three days before arrival. This digital upgrade will eliminate handwritten forms and speed up immigration processing.
The online portal is already live, allowing either format until September 30. From October, the digital form becomes the only accepted option for non-resident travelers.
What Makes TWAC So Convenient?
TWAC simplifies the entry process while improving speed, accuracy, and user experience at the border. The platform supports multiple languages and has an intuitive interface. After submitting your passport and travel details, a confirmation email with a QR code will be sent.
Immigration officers can retrieve your pre-filled data just by scanning your passport, making long queues and form errors a thing of the past.
Who Needs to Complete TWAC?
TWAC applies to all visitors without temporary or permanent residence in Taiwan, including tourists, business travellers, and short-term guests. Residents and diplomats are exempt. The form must be filled out online through twac.immigration.gov.tw, available in English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, and Indonesian.
You can register up to 16 people per form, ideal for family or group travel. There’s also an option to update submitted details before arrival if plans change.
What Information Is Required?
To complete the TWAC, travelers will need to provide:
- Passport number and expiry date
- Flight or vessel details and arrival date
- Local contact and accommodation info
- Purpose of visit (e.g., tourism or business)
No fees are charged for submission, and the platform is optimised for quick, mobile-friendly access.
What If You Forget? Don’t Worry
If you didn’t submit TWAC in advance, don’t panic, airport terminals and staff will be on hand to help. You can still fill out the digital form at the airport before passing through immigration. However, advance completion is strongly recommended to avoid delays.
With this update, Taiwan joins regional leaders like Malaysia, Thailand, and Cambodia in fully digitising arrival formalities, improving efficiency for all global travelers.
