Jetstar to Launch Direct Newcastle–Bali Flights This October

A major win for regional Australia and international travel access

Newcastle Takes Off to Bali

Jetstar has announced it will launch the first direct international flights from Newcastle Airport in over five years. Starting 21 October 2025, the airline will operate three weekly services between Newcastle and Bali (Denpasar).

The new route will use Jetstar’s efficient A321LR fleet, offering more than 70,000 seats annually. With a flight time of just over six hours, travellers can skip stopovers and fly straight to Bali’s iconic beaches.

A Gamechanger for the Hunter Region

This service marks Newcastle’s return to the international stage since 2020. Jetstar Group CEO Stephanie Tully called it “an exciting milestone” for the airline and the Hunter region. “No more long drives to Sydney or Brisbane,” she said. “Locals can now take off overseas from their doorstep.” She thanked Newcastle Airport and the NSW Government for helping make international travel more accessible.

Backed by Investment and Regional Ambition

The new route is supported by the NSW Government’s Aviation Attraction Fund and reflects a broader vision for the Hunter. NSW Minister for Jobs and Tourism Steve Kamper called the route a “new era of growth” for the region. “This isn’t just about tourism—it’s about economic growth, regional development, and global connectivity,” Kamper said.

Federal Minister for Tourism Don Farrell added, “This direct flight is a win for local business and tourism.” The route opens doors for exporters, hospitality providers, and the broader community across the Mid-North Coast.

Jetstar Expands Bali Connections

Bali remains Jetstar’s top international destination, with around 100 weekly services from Australia. The Newcastle route follows a recent Gold Coast–Bali launch, further expanding the airline’s Southeast Asian footprint.

The First of Many

Newcastle Airport CEO Linc Horton says Bali is just the beginning. “This is what the Hunter has been asking for—direct international access from their local airport,” he said. With an upgraded international terminal opening soon, Newcastle is set to welcome more global routes. Thanks to joint efforts from government and industry, the Hunter is officially open for international business.
