American Airlines & Qantas: A Transpacific Partnership That’s Soaring Higher
This winter, the strategic partnership between American Airlines and Qantas is making it easier—and more comfortable—than ever to travel between North America and Australia.
With expanded routes, increased frequencies, and upgraded aircraft, this joint business is redefining what it means to fly long-haul.
Strength in Numbers: Expanding the U.S.–Australia Network
Together, American and Qantas are offering the most comprehensive transpacific network connecting the United States with Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific.
Starting December 5, American will launch three weekly flights between Los Angeles (LAX) and Brisbane (BNE)—complementing Qantas’ existing service and giving travelers more flexibility.
Meanwhile, Qantas will ramp up Dallas Fort Worth (DFW)–Melbourne (MEL) flights to daily service from December 3, just in time for the busy holiday travel period.
From January, all Qantas flights between DFW and Sydney (SYD) will be operated on the spacious Airbus A380, delivering a premium onboard experience.
A Joint Business with Customer-Centric Benefits
This isn’t just code-sharing—it’s a deep, coordinated partnership designed to provide seamless travel experiences. Whether you’re booking with American or Qantas, you’ll benefit from:
- Aligned flight schedules for smoother connections
- Access to over 270 destinations across North America, Australia and New Zealand
- Reciprocal loyalty perks for AAdvantage® and Qantas Frequent Flyers
- Priority check-in, lounge access, and extra baggage for eligible members
- Miles redemption and upgrades across both airlines
With combined networks and shared goals, American and Qantas are streamlining the customer journey from takeoff to touchdown.
A Win for U.S.–Australia Travel
Both airlines are committed to enhancing the transpacific experience. According to Steve Johnson, American’s Vice Chair and Chief Strategy Officer:
“Together, we offer the most comprehensive service connecting the United States with Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific.”
Cam Wallace, CEO of Qantas International, echoed the sentiment:
“The strength of our partnership with American Airlines continues to bring great benefit to our customers around the world.”
The data backs it up: this winter, American and Qantas will operate up to seven weekly flights between Brisbane and Los Angeles. Add to that Qantas’ increased services to Melbourne and Sydney, and it’s clear this partnership is working hard to keep travelers connected.
New Planes, New Perks
American’s popular DFW–Brisbane seasonal route also returns from October 26. This time, the airline will deploy its newly redesigned Boeing 787-9, offering:
- 51 Flagship Suite® seats
- 32 Premium Economy seats
- A refreshed, modern experience for every traveler
More Than Flights—It’s About Access
From LAX, DFW, JFK, SFO and Vancouver, travelers can connect to Australia’s top cities and, from there, explore further with Qantas’ 70+ domestic and regional destinations. Whether you’re heading to Tasmania, the Great Barrier Reef, or New Zealand, the American-Qantas network makes it easy.
A Seamless, Global Travel Experience
At its heart, this joint business is about more than schedules and seats—it’s about creating a consistent, elevated travel experience that delivers on the promise of global connection.
Through shared vision and aligned service, American Airlines and Qantas are proving that great partnerships really do go the distance.
